Our leaders volunteer their time to host amazing adventures designed to help our members discover their own personal bold. Being a leader for Bold Betties means being a community leader and providing support to the women in their areas. Interested in being a leader? LET US KNOW!
It's our pleasure to introduce our Chapter Leader from Madison, WI: Kim Heagle!

Havasupai is high up on a lot of bucket lists and for excellent reasons: waterfalls, canyon walls, golden light, long hikes, swimming holes, fascinating history, and amazing people. There are a lot of ways to experience such a beautiful place, some more intense than others. When Bold Betties started considering hosting trips to Havasupai, we knew there was only one way to do it: no mules, no helicopters, just our Boldest members carrying everything they needed on their own backs with well-informed guides leading the way.
With our two female guides...
Westcliffe Horse Ranch Retreat Adventure Review from Susie Halsey
I had the amazing opportunity, thanks to Bold Betties, to spend 4 incredible days at Music Meadows Ranch, a beautiful 3,800 acre cattle ranch in the Wet Mountain Valley at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It truly is God’s country.
The ranch is owned and operated by Elin Parker, an incredible rancher, horsewoman, business woman, and human. I am so appreciative of all the wisdom and stories she shared with us. I am amazed at how she, with her ranch manager (another tough as nails...
2018 is right around the corner and if your new-year resolution does not contain going on adventure travel (a weekend camping trip or a multi-week expedition to Antarctica), you should most definitely make it as such!
Let's face it, losing 10 pounds and calling aunt Emma more often as new-year resolutions haven't worked out all that well and they never will as they have fleeting affects and they are often triggered by societal pressures.
Adventure travel, on the other hand, transforms you for life! Research and facts are clear! Adventure is good for your body, your soul and...

Next time you’re hiking the trails, mountain biking, paddling, skiing…take a look around. Who do you see? Does everyone look the same?
Outdoor brand catalogs and enthusiast magazines show us countless images of young, white, skinny yoga chicks, ripped female climbers, and a whole lotta dudes. And, not surprisingly, reality often follows suit.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
They say all heartbreaks, no matter how devastating, can be cured by the sea; that nature is good for the soul; that time heals all wounds.
And I agree.
These days, I love to enjoy the outdoors with my daughter, my friends, and my mom. You might even say that being outside has become my prescription for overcoming almost any disappointment. I’m regularly drawn to Bar Harbor, Maine, where the crisp ocean air, and beautiful seaside vistas act as an antidote for my soul.
But it wasn’t always this way.
The Betties found me in my last term of college. That awkward point where you’re overqualified for half the jobs and under-qualified for the other half… I was feeling down on myself and insecure about my abilities for not landing the job. You know THE job. Ya, that one.
For most of my adult life the holidays have been tough time of year, and I tend to have moments where I am sad and go down a negative path, feeling stuck or at least not where I thought I would be at this point in my life. But the end of the year is also a great time for reflection, gratitude and an opportunity to recognize the awesome events that have happened over the last few months.
Sometimes you find yourself and your inner strength in the oddest places – for example a dude ranch.
When people asked me how I got to Colorado, the snarky answer is “Well, I drove over 2,000 miles.” The short, non-snarky answer is “a bad break-up.”
While this is an over simplification, let me try to explain where I was emotionally before I decided to quit my well-paying professional job in Boston to go work a summer...

Bold Betties note: Another one of our "Women's History Month" submissions paying homage to women in our lives that change our personal history. The following is from Bold Betty Angela Bakas about her sister Liz. If this makes you feel wanderlusty, make sure you see our note at the end.
It was the summer of 2010. I was only 20 and had just quit my job to thru-hike the Colorado Trail with my...
Yeah, yeah…we know. Resolutions Shmesolutions. We sort of wondered how many people stayed inside on this Colorado snow day and got obliterated on old wine since they have all been on the wagon for a month.
Or maybe you’ve been Planet Orange-ing Fitness Theorizing or whatever. (Patience, Regulars, everyone will be clearing out soon and you can have your playthings back to yourself! ; )
We talk a lot about adventure, challenges, and pushing our limits around here. While most of those activities take place outdoors, we know that our experiences outside prep us for the daily and life challenges that often take place inside. While our experiences in the wild have pushed us and molded us in so many physical ways, it is what it does on the inside that is the most transformational. When we reap the rewards of these experiences, it is utterly life-changing.
The co-founding Bold Betties have gone through a bit of a metamorphosis this fall. We were accepted into the global startup accelerator Boomtown in Boulder, CO. Think Shark Tank, but 3 months long, and nicer. Mostly. ; ) With Boomtown’s help and a ton of mentors and advisors, we are building on what Niki started and taking Bold Betties to the next level. Our journey with Boomtown comes to an end as we prepare for our pitch at Demo Day tomorrow at the Boulder Theater- wish us luck!
