Exploring the outdoors shouldn’t be limited to a certain demographic, a specific type of person. Bold Betties is against the notion that only upper class gorgeous women in puffy coats should be able to summit mountains, explore the backcountry and have all the wilderness access available to them. However, this is not to say we don’t want to join them.
Although the realm of outdoor recreation is making a positive change, until recently many advertisements portrayed a certain type of woman as the representation of the outdoorsy woman. We are all familiar with...
Westcliffe Horse Ranch Retreat Adventure Review from Susie Halsey
I had the amazing opportunity, thanks to Bold Betties, to spend 4 incredible days at Music Meadows Ranch, a beautiful 3,800 acre cattle ranch in the Wet Mountain Valley at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It truly is God’s country.
The ranch is owned and operated by Elin Parker, an incredible rancher, horsewoman, business woman, and human. I am so appreciative of all the wisdom and stories she shared with us. I am amazed at how she, with her ranch manager (another tough as nails...
Introducing Christa Jo from Bold Betties Boise:
I’m Christa Jo. I have been a single mom since the ripe old age of 18. I have raised my two boys all by myself for the past 25 years! My youngest left for college last summer and I told myself when he left that this would be the year that I would find myself. Create myself. Discover who I am. What I like. What I want to do. For the past 25 years it has been about surviving the day to day. No more! I want to feel alive!

We heard your…silence. When we asked you a couple of weeks ago to share your New Year’s resolutions with the community, we got zero responses. So, we thought we’d take a different approach and talk about positive intentions for 2018: some small things you can do to feel better all year long.
In her wildly popular book The Desire Map, Danielle LaPorte recounts a New Year’s Eve at home with her husband a few years prior. She sat down with big sheets of poster board and starting mapping out her resolutions in a new way –...

Next time you’re hiking the trails, mountain biking, paddling, skiing…take a look around. Who do you see? Does everyone look the same?
Outdoor brand catalogs and enthusiast magazines show us countless images of young, white, skinny yoga chicks, ripped female climbers, and a whole lotta dudes. And, not surprisingly, reality often follows suit.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Need a little “me” time? Join us for no-fuss mini retreat in the Rockies, September 15-17. Machu Picchu is one of planet earth’s most mysterious and beautiful world heritage sites. Built over 500 years ago, without the assistance of iron, wheels or steel. The Inca Empire created this impressive fortress, leaving patrons puzzled seeing that the Incas did not write but somehow created such complex measurements and calculations. It is a site worth seeing and a history worth knowing.
It's a Sunday morning and the sky is a perfect shade of Denver blue. That light, clear blue of early morning that makes you feel inspired to get outside and LIVE. Coincidentally, it is also the color of my chauffeur’s eyes.
Yeah, yeah…we know. Resolutions Shmesolutions. We sort of wondered how many people stayed inside on this Colorado snow day and got obliterated on old wine since they have all been on the wagon for a month.
Or maybe you’ve been Planet Orange-ing Fitness Theorizing or whatever. (Patience, Regulars, everyone will be clearing out soon and you can have your playthings back to yourself! ; )
We talk a lot about adventure, challenges, and pushing our limits around here. While most of those activities take place outdoors, we know that our experiences outside prep us for the daily and life challenges that often take place inside. While our experiences in the wild have pushed us and molded us in so many physical ways, it is what it does on the inside that is the most transformational. When we reap the rewards of these experiences, it is utterly life-changing.
The co-founding Bold Betties have gone through a bit of a metamorphosis this fall. We were accepted into the global startup accelerator Boomtown in Boulder, CO. Think Shark Tank, but 3 months long, and nicer. Mostly. ; ) With Boomtown’s help and a ton of mentors and advisors, we are building on what Niki started and taking Bold Betties to the next level. Our journey with Boomtown comes to an end as we prepare for our pitch at Demo Day tomorrow at the Boulder Theater- wish us luck!
Human beings are creatures of habit. We stick to the familiar because it decreases our stress and we want to maintain a certain level of comfort. Sometimes when we push ourselves and things don’t go right it leads us to believe that we were wrong to try and that we should stay within our comfort zone. And so we do stay there, complacent with our predictable, normal routine. It’s not that routine is inherently bad, it’s just that the saying is true, all the magic really does happen outside...
Among the many, many wonderful members of Bold Betties is Vykky Maroney, a Denver entrepreneur, mother of five children and grandmother of two beautiful baby girls. Vykky grew up in North Dakota but later moved to Nevada. In the late 80’s she had the choice to move to either Denver, Los Angeles or Chicago. Vykky chose Denver (smart woman!) and has been enjoying the Mile High lifestyle ever since.
Vykky was a stay at home mom for 22 years. After divorcing she decided to start her own...

Does the idea of climbing frozen waterfalls seem super appealing to you? The sculptural ice shapes, the strength of the climber and the mastery of unique tools all come together for a beautiful experience, whether you’re climbing or just watching. But it’s also an intimidating sport to try. Here are a few things to know before you go.

At Bold Betties Outfitters we’re not just providing women with the outdoor gear they need to have amazing adventures, we’re also a group of women who enjoy going on adventures together right here in Colorado. In fact, we got our start as a Meetup group (now over 800 members strong) with the goal of meeting new friends and challenging ourselves to get outside our comfort zone.
One of our first members (she thinks she...
