This is a great entry level trip for newcomers or Betties looking build confidence outdoors. Expect 2-5 hours of activity a day on mostly flat or slightly hilly terrain with the occassional steep and/or uneven trail. You'll travel approximately 4-6 miles per day and experience moderate elevation/altitude changes.


Moderately difficult featuring more hills and mountain terrain, but still accessible for Betties inexperienced in outdoor adventure. Expect 4-6 hours of activity covering up to 10 miles a day. Expect steep and uneven trails and altitudes up to 10,000 ft.


Challenging adventures for Betties who are fit adventurers and possess a basic skill set for the outdoors. Expect 5-8 hours of activity per day over a variety of exposed terrain and steep uneven trails. Distances up to 12 miles per day and altitudes up to 14,000 ft.


Designed for the most experienced Betties who are do adventures on a regular basis. You'll be taken to remote locations over exposed, uneven and challenging terrain, requiring 10+ hours of activity per day and distances of 12+ miles. Altitudes could exceed 14,000 ft.

Hey Bold Betties! Is your New Year's Resolution to adventure more? How about connecting with likeminded women who inspire you to push your limits and support you while you are testing your boundaries?

The Big Island offers more than just incredible beaches, it offers scenic hiking as well. On this adventure we'll hike through lush valleys fed by picture perfect waterfalls, and across petrified lava fields that once flowed to the sea, all while still having time to relax on the beach! 

Just about everything is included on this adventure, including lodging, ground transportation, gear, admission fees, and even many of the meals.  The only things you're responsible for are airfare and some meals.

Once the holidays wind down and the snow really settles in, come February most of us are looking for a serious vacation. Planning one on your own takes work and energy and that is hard to come by in February. 

Luckily for you, Bold Betties trip planners never stop and we have just the thing!

Arrive into Kona International Airport (KOA)

2/23 

Private Pololu Valley Hike with Waipio Valley Historical walking/hiking tour (lunch included)

Travel up scenic Kohala Coast to historic Pololu Valley where you will hike down into the valley to the gorgeous black sand beach. You will spend ~3 hours in and around Pololu Valley. Then you will have a sit down lunch at a local eatery and have a chance to shop in a local art gallery.

You will then travel historic Kohala Mountain road through cowboy country to Waipio Valley. Traveling into the Valley of the Kings by van and spend 3 hours in this remote and majestic tucked away gem learning about the history and the surrounding beauty.

Private Captain Cook by Land and Sea Snorkel (lunch included)

James Cook is among the most famous and prolific British explorers and cartographers of all time. Sailing thousands of previously uncharted miles around the globe, Captain Cook met his tragic end right here on Hawai'i Island. Follow in the great explorers footsteps on this unique adventure by land and sea. Start by heading south deep into Kona coffee country. Visit to Bay View Farm, a working 24 acre coffee farm nestled on the slopes of Mauna Loa Volcano just above beautiful Kealakekua Bay and known for the best Kona coffee since 1984. Here you’ll see coffee growing on the trees and learn about the various steps and processes in making coffee, all of which happen right here on the farm. You’ll sample 100% Kona Coffee at a gorgeous overlook with stunning views of Kealakekua Bay and the monument to Captain Cook standing on the only sliver of British land in the United States. Before coffee there was kapu, the ancient Hawaiian system of laws. Should a person break a kapu and face almost certain death, they could make their way to a place of refuge and be absolved. Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park is one of the those places. Explore this historic 420 acre Park with your National Park Service-trained guide and see temple platforms, fishponds, and remnants of ancient life in Hawaii. Finally, take to the seas on a high-speed Zodiac-syle raft. Explore sea caves and lava tubes along the rugged Kona Coast while on the lookout for marine life all around you. Reaching the sheltered and pristine waters of Kealakekua Bay, you’ll come face to face with the monument to Captain Cook, along with snorkeling that ranks among the best in Hawaii.  Perfect for both beginners and experienced snorkelers. Snorkel, swim, and enjoy a deli lunch onboard before returning.

Step out of your comfort zone and try a thrilling zipline, and private waterfall swim and BBQ! Enjoy a relaxing drive through Saddle Road with views of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on your way to the most beautiful falls on Hawaii. Covering nearly two miles of gorgeous tropical river gorges, the 8-line zip course is fun for everyone. View multiple different waterfalls while soaring over 160 feet above them. A certified staff will guide you over one of the longest zipline lines on Hawaii Island at more than 2,400 feet in length! Ride the only all side-by-side dual-track zipline on Hawaii! 

After your zipline adventure enjoy a Hawaiian style BBQ lunch and swim in a private waterfall! Light snacks and water are provided throughout the tour.

Private Evening Volcano Explorer with black sand beach, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Dinner at Volcano Winery

Travel south into Kona coffee country for the first stop at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park. Before coffee there was kapu, the ancient Hawaiian system of laws. Should a person break kapu and face almost certain death they could make their way to a place of refuge and be absolved. Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park is one of those places of refuge. Explore this historic 420 acre park with your National Park Service-trained guide and see temple platforms, fishponds, and remnants of ancient life in Hawaii. We will then travel south traveling through the Ka’u Districts. Stunning views, alternating between stark lava flows and Hawaiian dry forest, are visible through the huge picture windows of your tour vehicle. We stop briefly at Punalu’u Bake Shop, the southern most bakery in America.  Offering the finest time-honored Hawaiian sweetbreads since 1991, the Bake Shop offers an array of breads and cookies.  Shortly thereafter, you’ll arrive at picturesque Punalu’u Black Sand Beach. Lined with swaying coconut palm trees, this is one of the best black sand beaches on the island. Stroll along the beach and look for honu (Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles) feeding just offshore or sun-worshipping on the sand. Then you will enter Hawaii Volcanoes National Park were you will get to see all of the changes and learn about the history of before and how it changed to what we see today. Then it’s on to the famous Volcano Winery, the southernmost winery in the United States. You’ll sample up to eight different types of wines, varying from sweet to dry, and all with a unique Hawaiian flare. The Volcano Winery also has estate grown teas to taste and soft drinks and water are also included. After sampling beverages, you’ll enjoy a hearty Hawaiian-style BBQ lunch with a complimentary glass of your choice of Volcano Winery wine or other beverage. Complete the day with a narrated drive before returning.

Private Mauna Kea Stargazing Explorer with Kaumana Caverns and Deli style dinner

This thrilling adventure is the only Big Island star tour to feature nighttime astronomical observing AND safe daytime solar viewing with all ages welcome! Our in-house stellar explorers are the best and most experienced in Hawaii with one having created the Mauna Kea Visitor’s Center and operated it for a decade. Others on staff have written noted articles and reviews for well-known astronomy magazines and have worked at world-class observatories.

The adventure starts with an afternoon journey to Mauka Meadows Coffee Farm, home to the biggest name in coffee in Japan, Doutor. Learn all about the estate grown Kona Coffee produced on this beautiful 130 acre farm. You’ll then have a delicious Hawaiian-style BBQ dinner at our private farm location with sweeping views of Kailua Bay below. Then sample coffee, honey, and teas in front of the largest infinity pool in Hawaii with the blue Pacific Ocean shimmering beyond. While you’re taking in the breathtaking terrestrial views, your guide will prepare some heavenly views just as stunning. Setting up a state of the art solar telescope for your viewing pleasure, your specially trained guide will let you safely watch the sun come alive in true color with vibrant solar flares, sunspots, prominences and any other current activity weather permitting. Next, you’ll travel across Saddle Road between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, two of the tallest and most massive volcanoes on Earth. Your National Park Service trained guide will discuss the volcanology, geology, and history of these monstrous wonders, as well as providing in-depth narration on the various lava flows and flora and fauna that you’ll be passing by. While you’re taking in the breathtaking terrestrial views, your guide will prepare some heavenly views just as stunning. Setting up a state of the art solar telescope for your viewing pleasure, your specially trained guide will let you safely watch the sun come alive in true color with vibrant solar flares, sunspots, prominences and any other current activity weather permitting.
 Lastly, your guide will take you to one of our preferred locations on Mauna Kea for nighttime stargazing. You’ll observe deep sky and planetary objects through a large aperture Dobsonian telescope under one of the darkest and most pristine skies on planet Earth! Our Dobsonian telescopes are a true purist’s experience to view the night sky. Their fast focal ratio enables you to see sprawling wide field views of objects that simply aren’t possible with the types of telescopes used by other tours. Depending on what is visible in the current sky and weather permitting, you’ll observe galaxies, nebula, star clusters, planets, double star systems, the moon, and much more; all the highlights and showpiece objects like you’ve never seen before!
 Afterwards, warm up with Mauka Meadows 100% Kona coffee, hot chocolate, and a delicious dessert from our local artisan baker before returning to your resort. Warm jackets provided. This tour does not visit Maunakea’s summit out of deference to Native Hawaiian concerns.

If trip is cancelled before January 30th, everything except for the $550 non-refundable deposit will be refunded. After January 30th, the trip is non-refundable.
